Binford Park

Whether you live in New Albany or you are just passing through on your way to Indianapolis, Binford Park is a fantastic place to spend a day. It is a very large park and it is very up and coming. There is a lot of history here and it is also a great place to spend time with friends and family. Check this out!

Large park

Whether you’re a long-time resident or new to the city, New Albany offers numerous parks to suit your needs. The city has over 2,000 acres of parks and recreation areas, including 55-plus miles of leisure trails. In addition, there are several public facilities that offer sports and recreation opportunities for all ages.

The New Albany Parks & Recreation Department provides recreational programs and manages three larger parks in the city. The agency serves more than 3,700 participants of all ages, providing services in a safe, cost-effective manner.

The City of New Albany has been working on a five-year strategic plan called Engage New Albany. One area of the plan addresses the creation of three new destination parks in the city. To identify and prioritize public parks for improvement, the city’s staff worked with local community groups. The project is funded by bond issues passed in 2003 and 2004. The City is updating playgrounds at five neighborhood parks this year and upgrading another five in 2022.

Scratchy reputation

Among the plethora of green spaces in the New Albany blight zone, Binford Park gets the dubious honor of being the least populated. Fortunately, its neighbours are well behaved. Although a sprinkling of the riff raff can be found in the surrounding environs, it is a pleasant place to be. In fact, Binford is a well deserved respite from the more pedestrian aficionados. With that said, it is no surprise that the city has managed to score a spot in the top 5 most livable cities in Indiana. The best part is that the city is a mere 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown Louisville. Despite being a suburban hub, the city ain’t short on culture and wit. Hence, it is no surprise that the town is home to many of Louisville’s finest. Visit another area in town here.
